Description
Since its arrival on the Côte de Beaune, the Faiveley family has sought to convey the purest essence of Burgundian Chardonnay. The "Champ Gain" parcel , acquired in 2014, represents a strategic and almost poetic decision: to reclaim a plot of land on the heights of Puligny Montrachet, just above "Les Folatières", where the light, stony, southeast-facing soil offers a particularly vibrant expression of Premier Cru. Its name, which means "land reclaimed from the forest", evokes this desire to sculpt wine in an almost wild environment. The vines, planted between 1963 and 2018, are cultivated using organic practices, respecting the natural rhythm of the vineyard.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and the selection in the cellar is rigorous. The grapes destined for Faiveley Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain are gently pressed before being transferred to French oak barrels (40-50% new), where they ferment and mature for 17 to 18 months. During this ageing, regular bâtonnages are carried out to add volume without masking the natural tension of the wine. Bottling is carried out with minimal intervention, preserving the lively texture and marked mineral character that defines this Premier Cru.
Taste
From the nose, Faiveley Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Gain captivates with its restrained elegance: fine citrus fruits (lime, pink grapefruit), white fruits (pear, apple) and a subtle exotic note (kumquat, green pineapple) intertwine with nuances of fresh butter, brioche and toasted almond. Nothing is excessive. The oak is hinted at, but does not dominate. On the palate, the entry is creamy, enveloping, but a straight acidity quickly appears that tightens the whole. The minerality - flint, dry stone, even a hint of salt - structures the wine and drives it forward. There is an internal energy reminiscent of the great Altura whites: precision, tension and depth. The finish is long, vibrant, with citrus echoes and a discreet herbaceous touch.
