Description
A light breeze blows through the foundations of the winery when you think of Faiveley Meursault. For generations, the Faiveley family has lived to the rhythm of the Burgundy vineyards. It was a bold decision - to go for Meursault at the height of the Côte de Nuits red era - that marked a turning point in their history. This cuvée is born of a deep respect for the terroir, with plots located in the south of the village, bordering Puligny Montrachet, on limestone, marl and clay soils, facing east and southeast. The viticulture is organic, with minimal intervention, seeking to allow the grapes to express all the minerality and freshness of this exceptional site.
Winemaking
The Chardonnay grapes, selected by hand and transported in small crates, are gently pressed. Only the finest musts are used for this process. Faiveley Meursault is fermented in French oak barrels (less than a third new), where regular bâtonnage is carried out during the 14 months of ageing. This work on fine lees gives the wine texture without overshadowing its identity. The oak accompanies the wine subtly, without taking centre stage. After ageing, the wine is delicately blended and bottled without aggressive filtration to preserve its purity and tension.
Taste
On the nose, Faiveley Meursault displays an elegant palette of fresh butter, candied lemon, white flowers and lightly toasted brioche bread. Notes of ripe apple and subtle, almost chalky minerality. The palate is round and unctuous, with a broad attack that gives way to a lively, precise acidity. It is a Meursault of balance: dense but agile, with very well-integrated oak. The finish is long, with echoes of citrus, light nuts and salinity. A Burgundian Chardonnay that combines richness and purity, ideal for those seeking authenticity and finesse without artifice.
