Buy Wine from Viña Almaviva
The Almaviva winery is located in the heart of Chile, the fruit of an exceptional collaboration between two titans of the wine world. In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A., and Mr Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., joined forces with the vision of creating an exceptional premium Franco-Chilean wine. This vision materialised in Almaviva which, after its first vintage in 1998, became an immediate international success.
The name "Almaviva" has its roots in classical French literature, with Count Almaviva being the hero of "The Marriage of Figaro", a famous comedy by Beaumarchais that Mozart would later transform into an opera. The Almaviva label pays homage to both this literary heritage and the rich history of Chilean ancestors.Vineyards
The Almaviva vineyard is located in the highest part of the Maipo Valley, specifically in Puente Alto, a region renowned for having the ideal conditions to produce one of Chile's best Cabernet Sauvignon. From the lands of Puente Alto, 65 exclusive hectares have been selected for the production of Almaviva. The soils of this region are stony and very poor, which, together with cold, rainy winters and a long ripening season with cool nights and mild summer days, allows for grapes of extraordinary quality and balance. The cold influence of the Andes Mountains, with their cool breezes and the difference in temperature between day and night, favours a slow and homogeneous ripening of the grapes.
Philosophy
The production of Almaviva wines reflects a perfect fusion of tradition and modernity. The winery, located in Puente Alto and designed by Chilean architect Martín Hurtado, combines aesthetics and functionality, using native woods and symbolism of Chile's native peoples. Harvesting is carried out with great care, transporting the bunches of grapes in small boxes and selecting them by hand. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, where the must is cooled and then fermented at controlled temperatures. The wine is then racked into new French oak barrels, where it remains for approximately 10 months. After this period, the wine is filtered with egg white and bottled. Every step of the process reflects Almaviva's commitment to excellence, from the selection of the grapes to the bottling and distribution of the final wine.
