Description
Mascarello Langhe Freisa Toetto is a wine that comes from the Freisa grape variety, grown in the Toetto vineyard, located in the village of Castiglione Falletto (CN), in the centre of the Barolo wine-growing area. It has been owned by the MASCARELLO family since 1987 and covers an area of 0.68 hectares. Situated 280 metres above sea level, facing west-northwest, the soil is clayey and calcareous, composed of grey marl and brown clay of marine origin. The Freisa vines were planted in 1989.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested at the beginning of October. The vinification process is in the traditional style, with the fermentation of the selected grapes from the estate for 15/20 days with the cap submerged. Subsequently, the wine matures in Slovenian oak barrels for a few months and is then stabilised in inert tanks. Its cellar life is expected to be 4-6 years and it is bottled two years after the harvest.
Taste
Mascarello Langhe Freisa Toetto has a deep ruby red colour. On the nose, it is varietal and spicy, offering aromas of strawberry, tart black cherry, mushroom, liquorice, black pepper and nutmeg, which are also found on the palate. The taste is dry, characteristic and full-bodied, accompanied by abundant tannins.
