Buy Wine from Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España
Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España C.V.N.E. has a rich winemaking history, as its name suggests. From its origins, the challenge was the production and aging of quality wines in the town of Haro, in the area known as La Rioja.
Today, the fifth generation is at the helm of the company. Today the group is made up of four wineries: CVNE, Imperial (an autonomous winery within the original CVNE winery), Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino.
A bit of history
In 1920, the first Viña Real wines were launched on the market and Bodega Imperial was born.
In 1973, Viñedos Contino was born, a small manor house in Laserna surrounded by 62 hectares of vineyards. The aim was to introduce a winery style that imitates the glamour of the French "château".
In 2004, King Juan Carlos I inaugurated the Viña Real winery, an architectural jewel on the Cerro de Mesa in Laguardia and one of the most technologically advanced wineries in the world.
Today, under the combination of tradition, modernity and production of the best wine in Spain, the Company has been expanding.
To date, the group has seven wineries in the country: CVNE, Imperial, Viña Real and Viñedos del Contino in La Rioja, Roger Goulart in Penedés, Bela in Ribera del Duero and Virgen del Galir in Valdeorras.
Wonderful and ingenious structures
Innovations have also been the representative feature of the group.
At the end of the 19th century, the architect Aleixandre Gustave Eiffel designed a column-free structure in which the roof is supported by metal trusses, which run from wall to wall. This unique structure is called the Eiffel Hall of the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE).
This structure still favors today the daily tasks of racking, maintenance and supervision of the winery's wines due to the existence of a large space open to a sea of barrels.
In 1940, after the civil war, this company was the first in Spain with afermentation hall built in concrete.
In 1989, the El Pilar building was inaugurated, the first non-aggressive winemaking building that uses gravity to transport the must in Spain. The CVNE group was a pioneer in this concept and even today, it is being extended to other wineries.
Medals and international awards
Since its inception, the company has won major national and international awards, these are just some of them:
In 1885, CVNE received the Silver and Bronze medals of the Universal Exhibition of Antwerp in Belgium. Subsequently, it was awarded Gold medals at the international exhibitions in Barcelona (Spain, 1888), Paris (France, 1889) and again in Antwerp in 1890 and 1894.
In 1897, another gold medal was received, in Brussels, as international recognition and the grand prize in Paris in 1900.
Curiosities of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España
Although it reads "Cune", CVNE is the abbreviation of "Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España S.A.".
CVNE's Imperial winery is an autonomous winery within the original CVNE winery.
The first wine produced by the Company was named under its initials. This happy misspelling between the U and the V created the iconic, original and unique Cune brand.
Many, many years have passed in which Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España has been producing artisanal and traditional wines that have a place at the table of people in more than 90 countries.
And you, have you already tasted some of the wines of Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España?
