Buy Wine from Bodegas Antídoto
Bodegas Antídoto is located in San Esteban de Gormaz, a small town located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, in the province of Soria, Spain.
This winery was founded in 2011 by Bertrand Sourdais, a renowned French vigneron, and his partner David Hernando. Bertrand began his career in the world of wine in the Loire region, where he followed the family tradition. In 1999, during his first visit to Soria, he discovered a terroir with a rich winemaking history, but which had not yet reached its true potential. In particular, the Ribera del Duero area of Soria had vineyards of old vines that caught his attention.Bertrand previously worked on prominent projects, such as Dominio de Atauta, where he began to apply his innovative and environmentally friendly approach. In 2011, he decided to create Bodegas Antídoto, together with David Hernando, who is a winegrower with a deep knowledge of the terroir and traditional viticulture techniques. David is a technical agricultural engineer and oenologist, and both partners share the same vision of respecting and preserving the region's viticultural heritage.
Vineyards
The vineyards of Bodegas Antídoto are located in the region of San Esteban de Gormaz, a region characterised by its natural beauty, situated on a high plateau flanked by the Central and Iberian mountain ranges. In this area, the Duero river plays a crucial role in shaping the landscape, dividing the soils into two zones: red earth to the north and more yellowish, sandy soils to the south.
The climate is markedly continental, with long, cold winters, accompanied by large thermal amplitudes that favour the cultivation of vines. However, the climate is also slightly influenced by the Mediterranean breeze, which gives a distinctive nuance to the wines. The soils are predominantly sandy and clayey, with the presence of calcareous rock, which contributes to a unique terroir.
The winery has 110 hectares of vineyards, distributed in 776 small plots in 15 municipalities. Most of the vines are Tempranillo (known locally as Tinto Fino), although the white variety Albillo Mayor and small amounts of Garnacha are also grown. Many of these vines are centuries old, having survived the phylloxera plague that devastated Poundpean vineyards in the 19th century. The winery works these vineyards organically, with a deep respect for the land and traditional techniques.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Bodegas Antídoto is based on a deep connection with the land and respect for the winemaking tradition of the region. Since its beginnings, the winery has maintained a sustainable approach, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Winemaking follows a meticulous and artisanal process, where each wine is treated according to its own characteristics and the final destination for which it is destined.
Bertrand and David have decided to work hand in hand with the local winegrowers, who bring with them an ancestral tradition and knowledge of vineyard management. This partnership model allows them to manage a multi-plot system, which means that each plot, no matter how small, receives personalised attention. This system requires extraordinary precision, especially during the harvest, when each plot is harvested at its optimum time.
As for the winemaking process, the winery uses minimalist techniques in oenological intervention, seeking to express the pure character of the terroir and the indigenous varieties. The wines of Bodegas Antídoto stand out for their elegance and freshness, with a style that combines tradition with a modern and environmentally friendly approach. Soils rich in sand and clay, together with the continental climate, allow the production of wines with great minerality and excellent ageing capacity.
The leitmotiv of the project is to rescue and renew the winemaking heritage of Soria's Ribera del Duero, an area that until recently has been underestimated in terms of its ability to produce high quality wines. For Bertrand and David, the success of Bodegas Antidoto lies not only in the quality of the wines, but also in the conservation and respect for the rural heritage that this winery represents. This approach has enabled them to position the winery as one of the most important in the region, with growing recognition on the international scene.
Bodegas Antídoto represents, in essence, a commitment to the future of Soria wines, with a clear focus on sustainability, respect for biodiversity and the creation of wines that reflect the true spirit of the land. With a winery and vineyards that remain firmly rooted in their roots, but with an innovative and forward-looking vision, Bodegas Antídoto continues to demonstrate that the wines of Soria's Ribera del Duero region have much to offer the wine world.
