Description
Strohmeier TLZ Sonne is a true representation of the generosity and exuberance evoked by its name, which means sunshine in German. This wine is distinguished by its opulent and generous character, moving away from the herbaceous characteristics of commercial Sauvignons to offer a more mature and enriching experience. It is considered one of Strohmeier's most outstanding wines, and no wonder, as its older vintages are truly impressive for those who have the patience to wait.
The varieties that make up this wine are exclusively Sauvignon Blanc. It comes from the Bad Gams and Stainz vineyards, which are characterised by a gneiss soil enriched with important iron and silica contents.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-picked and carefully sorted in the vineyard, ensuring that only the healthiest and ripest grapes are used, while damaged berries are discarded. This process is essential to guarantee high quality material for the prolonged skin contact that follows. After destemming, the grapes are gently crushed and spend 4 weeks in contact with their skins. After gentle pressing and spontaneous alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is bottled after 12 months of ageing in used wooden barrels, being 50% acacia and 50% oak. The result is an unfiltered, unclarified wine with no added sulphur.
Taste
The skin contact in Strohmeier TLZ Sonne is more prevalent than in TLZ Weiss, but it is still a wine of subtlety and finesse. Its colour is slightly amber/copper, and it is advisable to serve it in large glasses to appreciate all its layers. At the beginning, the presence of passion fruit stands out, which then gives way to more complex tropical fruits and citrus. All this is combined with a very pleasant acidity and a smooth texture on the palate - a truly delicious taste!
