Description
Located in Languedoc, France, the Mas Coutelou winery produces Mas Coutelou Macabeu Oeuf, a wine that expresses the terroir very well, thanks to the careful work carried out by its creator Jeff Coutelou in the winery.
Its name is due to the fact that the Macabeu grape is one of the main protagonists, and this grape is grown in one of the vineyards recovered by this dedicated winegrower who was one of the first to implement organic practices in the region.
Winemaking
The single varietal Mas Coutelou Macabeu Oeuf wine is made only from Macabeo grapes. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place with maceration of the skins. Ageing is carried out in ovoid ceramic vats and concrete and fibreglass tanks.
It is then aged on fine lees for six months. Finally, only one barrel is bottled by gravity without fining or filtering. This wine is quite exclusive and only a few bottles are produced.
Taste
It is a white wine with a fruity flavour and aroma, as well as slightly stony spicy notes. On the palate, Mas Coutelou Macabeu Oeuf feels a little light, acidic and a little salty. It has a powerful structure and there is some fruity sweetness, but not sugary.
It is an intense and lively wine, quite balanced, with long intensity and very fresh.
