Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From Chardonnay vines planted in 1962, the 2014 Ambonnay Grand Cru Les Bermonts was disgorged without dosage in March 2019. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of waxy lemon rind, confit citrus, pastry cream, orange oil and blanched almonds, it's full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a fleshy and muscular profile that's vinous and textural but at the same time youthfully reserved, concluding with a long and saline finish. While Pinot Noir dominates Chardonnay in terms of planted acreage in this village, this wine makes clear that Ambonnay dominates either cépage in the glass.

Description
Marguet Les Bermonts Grand Cru
In the heart of Ambonnay, one of the most emblematic Grand Cru of the Montagne de Reims, Benoît Marguet carries on his family's lineage with a radically conscious vision: to cultivate the vine as if it were an extension of his own life energy. Now one of the benchmarks of biodynamic viticulture in Champagne, Benoît not only dispenses with chemicals, but works the land with horses and applies biodynamic preparations with an almost mystical rigour. Marguet Les Bermonts Grand Cru was born from an unusual decision: to bottle a single lieu-dit separately, with minimal intervention, to express the voice of the soil in a raw and pure way. A 100% Chardonnay Champagne, grown on active chalk soils with a south-east orientation, which gives it a vertical energy, a marked salinity and a precise structure. Marguet does not seek to please the modern palate, but to provoke reflection. And it succeeds.
Winemaking
Marguet Les Bermonts Grand Cru is harvested by hand in small crates, with strict selection in the vineyard to preserve the purity of the fruit. The grapes ferment spontaneously in used barrels, without temperature control or the addition of commercial yeasts, thus respecting the natural expression of the terroir. Malolactic fermentation is not blocked, but occurs spontaneously only if the wine allows it. After several months of ageing on the lees, without bâtonnage, it is bottled for its second fermentation and remains at least 48 months in the cellar. Disgorgement is manual, without freezing, and the dosage, where it exists, is kept below 2 g/l. Each step in the production of Marguet Les Bermonts Grand Cru follows a logic of minimal intervention to preserve the wine's living energy.
Taste
The nose of Marguet Les Bermonts Grand Cru opens with precision and purity: notes of green apple, white pear and crystalline lemon blend with wet chalk, acacia blossom and delicate brioche. As it oxygenates, deeper layers appear: raw almond, light honey, a touch of grapefruit peel and broken limestone. On the palate, the bubbles are very fine, integrated like a texture. The entry is direct, almost cutting, with vibrant acidity that draws a slender and tense profile. The finish is long, saline, with a persistence of ripe citrus fruit, white flowers and a sharp minerality that leaves a precise trace.
