Description
Since 1797,Louis Latour has been refining a very Burgundian approach to wine: not to impose a brand over the terroir, but to let the land set the pace. Louis Latour Bourgogne Cuvée Latour Blanc is born precisely from this philosophy. It does not set out to be more than it is, but nor is it content with a bland, regional white wine. It is made from a selection of Chardonnay grapes from the Côte Chalonnaise, with vines around 30 years old planted on limestone soils, harvested by hand and tended with that serene classicism that distinguishes the great houses when they need not make a fuss. Burgundy is presented here in its natural state: a continental climate, limestone as its backbone, and a tradition that sees finesse as a form of precision.
Production
The vinification of Louis Latour Bourgogne Cuvée Latour Blanc follows a clean and precise approach. Fermentation takes place in the traditional manner in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, aiming to preserve the aromatic definition and natural freshness of Burgundy Chardonnay. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full, imparting a rounder, more enveloping texture, whilst retaining the wine’s tension. It is then aged for between 8 and 10 months in stainless steel, a process that prevents the wood from taking centre stage and keeps the focus on the purity of the fruit, the chalky character and the overall elegance.
Taste
On the nose,Louis Latour Bourgogne Cuvée Latour Blanc is delicate, but not weak. It opens with honeysuckle, lemon and a very subtle freshness of white flowers. This is followed by a note of fresh almond, a faint hint of vanilla and that underlying hint of light stone that gives it definition. On the palate, it is round and almost silky, but the acidity immediately gives it structure. This is not an exuberant or tropical French white wine, but rather one that is straightforward, polished and elegant. The finish is lively, with a subtle hint of mint and a chalky freshness that cleanses the palate and invites another sip. A classic Burgundy white wine: serene and very well-structured.
