Kuusu 2023
£100.39 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / North Ireland
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2023 Kuusu was produced with Tempranillo or Tinta de Toro grapes from a 0.9-hectare plot of ungrafted ancient vines in the village of Villabuena del Puente on sandy soils with quartzite that deliver extremely low yields. The grapes were picked quite early to avoid excess ripeness and keep the freshness, were foot trodden and fermented with indigenous yeasts and some full clusters in stainless steel and matured in 600-liter barrels for 10 months. This is surprisingly floral and aromatic, elegant and fresh for the region. It has contained ripeness, only 13.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.5, with very fine tannins and a velvety mouthfeel. It's a very gentle and elegant Toro. 3,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024.
