Description
Emilio Moro Bestizo wine marks a new chapter in the history of the Emilio Moro family. Born in 2024, this red wine symbolises the fourth generation's drive to explore new horizons without losing the link with the land. For the first time, the winery ventures outside Ribera del Duero to embrace the authenticity of El Bierzo, and it does so with a clear commitment: Mencía. The choice of Villafranca del Bierzo was not accidental; its Atlantic climate, altitude and schist and slate soils offer a perfect environment for a wine that seeks freshness, honesty and lightness without sacrificing depth. The northwest orientation and natural slopes allow for excellent drainage, limiting excess water in an area of high rainfall. Emilio Moro Bestizo is, above all, a tribute to the land and a declaration of intent: the winery feels more and more Bierzo.
Winemaking
Emilio Moro Bestizo is made exclusively from Mencía grapes, harvested by hand and fermented for 7 days in 25,000 litre tanks, followed by a total maceration of 12 days. The submerged cap technique without pumping over allows for a subtle extraction, privileging the fruit and varietal character. After malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, the wine is aged for 8 months in 2,500 litre foudres, which respect its fresh and fruity profile without imposing excessive oak notes.
Taste
Aromatically, Emilio Moro Bestizo displays notes of red cherry, plum and pomegranate, with delicate floral hints of violet and a subtle spicy background. On the palate, it is juicy, agile and very drinkable, with a vibrant acidity that adds tension and length. The tannins are fine, polished, and the overall sensation is one of structured lightness. A subtle minerality, reminiscent of wet stone, adds depth. The finish is clean, fresh, with hints of red fruits and a balsamic touch that invites another sip.
