Description
From the granitic soils and the free wind of the Empordà, Cosmic Llibertat is born as an act of faith in the Cariñena Negra, and as a tribute to the land that gave birth to Còsmic Vinyaters in 2013. Salvador Batlle, its creator, works with the conviction that authenticity can only emerge from freedom: no make-up, no concessions. This wine does not belong to any appellation -it is a table wine- and yet it deeply embodies the soul of the Empordà.
Cosmic Llibertat comes from two vines planted in 1964 and 1968, at 200-270 metres above sea level, with a north-south exposure. The viticulture is organic and biodynamic, and the vines are grown in traditional bush vines, without irrigation, allowing the Mediterranean-Pyrenean climate and the poor granitic sandy soils to mark the character of the grapes.
Winemaking
Cosmic Llibertat is harvested by hand. The grapes are gently trodden with the feet, followed by a brief 5-day maceration with skins. After a delicate pressing, spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks without any intervention. Cosmic Llibertat is aged on fine lees for 4 months, without fining or filtering, to preserve its raw energy.
Taste
On the nose, Cosmic Llibertat is deep and restrained: notes of dry violet, graphite, damp earth and fine leather. The fruit is minimal, almost ghostly. On the palate, its austere texture stands out, with tense tannins, marked acidity and mineral freshness. There is an electric verticality, a whisper of dried herbs and lavender, and a saline persistence. A radical, pure, lively wine.
