Buy Wine from Sara i René Viticultors
The story of Sara i René Viticultors began in 2001, when Sara Pérez and René Barbier Jr., heirs of two of the most influential families of the Priorat renaissance -the Pérez Ovejero family of Mas Martinet and the Barbier family of Clos Mogador-decided to start a parallel, independent and deeply personal project. They did so with a clear idea: to recover the essence of the landscape without ties or artifice.
They started with the most difficult thing: a forgotten plot of land in the Pesseroles valley. It had been abandoned for more than ten years. The land, eroded; the vines, wounded. And yet they saw potential there. For four years they worked tirelessly: replanting, pruning, listening to the vines. Time did its part. The old vines sprouted again. The vineyard spoke again.
Since then, they have forged their own style: natural Priorat wines born of respect for the place, with minimal intervention, organic farming and obsessive attention to detail. The result is not a simple expression of the Priorat, but a serene and profound reinterpretation of its character.
A new voice in the Priorat
Sara i René Viticultors understand the Priorat not as a uniform style, but as a mosaic of microclimates, textures and exposures. They work with old vines on impossible terraces and steep slopes, where llicorella and slate mark the pulse. But their vision goes beyond the mineral: they look for freshness, elegance and tension. Wines with structure, yes, but also with verticality and purity.
Partida Pedrer, for example, comes from a north-facing plot, with a vinification process that combines whole clusters and long macerations. There is no make-up or unnecessary oak. Just the character of the place, no frills.
Partida Bellvisos, another jewel of the project, was recovered after decades of abandonment. There they discovered Garnatxa Peluda vines that they believed to be Cariñena. This revelation gave rise to a wine of enormous freshness, tension and depth: a sincere expression of the mountain, of the shade, of silence.
Winery without artifice
In the winery, their philosophy is clear: minimum intervention, but with maximum precision. Harvesting is done by hand, transport is immediate, and fermentation is adjusted to each variety and vintage. Sometimes they use amphorae, sometimes steel or neutral wood. There are no dogmas, only coherence. As Sara says: "We don't want recipes. We don't want fashion. We want truth".
Their wines do not seek to surprise with volume or intensity, but with texture, energy and emotion. They are artisanal Priorat wines that demand attention, that invite you to pause. They do not impose themselves, but they remain.
The soul of the difficult
Sara i René Viticultors is not just a winery. It is a manifesto of how wine can be made with courage, sensitivity and absolute respect for the landscape. Their work shows that luxury is not in ostentation, but in authenticity: in each hand-picked grape, in each recovered vine, in each sip that tastes of slope, stone and wind.
For those who are looking for wines with soul, wines that tell a story without fanfare, this project is essential. It is a voice that does not shout, but leaves its mark. A contemporary Priorat that is necessary
