Partida Pedrer 2022

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Partida Pedrer Negre is from llicorella schist soils and a growing season with abundant heat waves that accelerated everything. They had to harvest quickly, do some dry carbonic macerations and a gentler vinification, trying to rescue the balance in the grapes, compensating the heat. The wine has a pale cloudy ruby color, and the nose is super expressive, with a sensation of wilderness and freedom, with some meaty and earthy qualities. The wine has energy and power but with a gentler twist in the palate, and the alcohol is really integrated (it's 14.5%, but you don't feel it). It has fine tannins from the Garnacha and a very sapid finish.

Description
Partida Pedrer was born from the radical commitment to the land of Sara Pérez and René Barbier Jr, heirs to two of the most influential names in the Priorat. Instead of following established formulas, they decided to look to a forgotten, north-facing vineyard on the heights of Bellvisos. There, between llicorella and quartz, they grow Garnacha Negra by hand, without machinery, letting nature set the pace. The aim: to produce a natural Priorat wine that speaks softly, but says a lot. With the most recent vintage, they took a bold turn: they completely abandoned the use of wood and aged the wine only in 300-litre ceramic vats, in search of a purer, more direct expression of the terroir, without any make-up.
Winemaking
The grapes for Partida Pedrer, 100% Garnacha Negra, are harvested by hand at their optimum point, with strict selection in the vineyard. One part of the bunches is vinified whole, without destemming, to preserve freshness and structure. The other part is gently crushed and subjected to prolonged maceration, which extracts fine tannins and aromatic complexity. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, without additives, and for the first time Partida Pedrer rests entirely in ceramic amphorae, which allow for minimal micro-oxygenation without adding external notes, as wood would do. The result is a natural Priorat wine, bottled without fining, without filtering and without added sulphites, an honest expression of the wildest Priorat.
Taste
With a restrained but precise entry, Partida Pedrer shows a restrained fruit profile: red cherry, fresh raspberry, an echo of pomegranate, accompanied by notes of black olive, liquorice and Mediterranean herbs. The tannin is smooth, present but integrated, and the natural acidity drives the wine with nerve. In the background, the minerality of the soil -warmwisteriaand cold quartz -adds a stony, elegant tension. This is not an exuberant wine, but one that expresses itself with depth and authenticity. Persistent, with echoes of dried flowers, black tea and a saline touch, Partida Pedrer is a natural Priorat wine that does not seek to please, but to convince with its truth.
