Buy Wine from Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada
Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada is the first certified biodynamic winery in the Ribeiro Designation of Origin, and is also the personal project of Iago Garrigo. A young winegrower who, driven by his love of wine, decided to transform a wasteland behind the Monastery of San Clodio into a winery to market his own vines.
The soil of these vineyards is unique in that it integrates the coexistence of plants and animals, allowing many of the native grape varieties to grow and ripen optimally.
Let's talk about its history
The Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada project began in parallel to the love story between Liliana Fernández and Lago Garrido, who run the winery.
At the beginning, it functioned as a furancho, a place that only sold surplus wine for local consumption, but as time went by, it took shape until it became what it is today, one of the most famous in the sector and even in Spain.
Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada is located in the village of Rioboó Cenlle, just behind the historic Monastery of San Clodio, where you can distinguish it not only by its green hillside, but also by the majestic view of the land of the vineyards.
It is named after a small river that runs through the middle of the estate, which the locals have called "Augalevada" and which the winegrower has decided to place to honour the place.
Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada began as a dream, however, in 2009, Garrido and Fernandez decided to start cultivating different types of native Ribeiro grapes, applying biodynamic techniques, thus producing unique and exclusive wines from the fermentation of various species.
The result is represented in the wines that carry the essence of this land, the energy and freshness that define this project with the phrase: making wines with the soul.
Techniques used
At the Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada winery, biodynamic techniques are applied that integrate the presence of the natural elements that surround the vine, so that the fruit can express itself freely, without the addition of chemicals or human intervention.
In this way, from the cultivation phase, through the harvest and then the processing of the fruit, the application of industrialised techniques and the addition of chemicals are not considered, as these techniques can alter the taste and aroma of the fruit.
The fermentation phase is also carried out with the fruit's own yeasts, using barrels that do not alter the fermentation process.
As for vinification, this depends on the grape, however, in all cases the ageing period exceeds 7 months, and the addition of chemical elements is avoided. However, they do have a minimum addition of sulphites when bottled.
Vineyards
The vineyards of the Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada winery are located right next to the Monastery of San Clodio, on terraces that are hidden in a wooded valley.
Within the plots there are also sheep and cattle grazing, which contributes to the biodynamic agriculture that determines this winery.
The soils of these vineyards are classified as virgin, producing among its autochthonous grape varieties the treixadura type, which, when fermented with others in the sector, become fruits of great quality to produce exclusive wines.
Biodynamic wines
The Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada winery is the only winery in the sector with wines produced using biodynamic techniques, positioning itself in the market as unique and exclusive.
