Buy Wine from Ansgar Clüsserath
The Ansgar Clüsserath winery is located in the Mosel wine region, an area with a winemaking tradition going back centuries. This particular winery has been in operation since 1670, always under family ownership. The knowledge and experience in Riesling cultivation has been passed down from generation to generation, with exquisite handwork on the best sites around Trittenheim, currently planted with Riesling vines that are up to 100 years old.
The current winemaker, Eva Clüsserath, builds on this legacy of experience, investing in the next generation and the next century of Weingut Clüsserath history. Eva is a Riesling expert, with knowledge not only of her home region of Mosel, but also of Pfalz and Rheinhessen. She is a graduate of Geisenheim and is known for producing wines that are direct, taut and almost Saar-like.Vineyards
The Mosel region is known for its breathtaking scenery, steep slopes and diversity. The winding course of the Mosel River allows the vineyards to have diverse orientations, and Riesling thrives in every configuration of slate soil, sun exposure and elevation. Some of the winery's notable vineyards include: Trittenheimer Apotheke, situated on a particularly steep and steep bend in the Mosel, this vineyard benefits from heat-storing Devonian slate soils, with a slope of up to 65%; Neumagener Rosengärtchen, this vineyard faces southwest and is known for its clay slate and weathered stone soils, which give the Rieslings their unmistakable floral aromas; and Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, almost surrounding the town of Piesport, this site is shaped like an amphitheatre, protecting the grapes from the wind and channelling heat. Its Devonian slate soils give these wines a mineral complexity.
Philosophy
Ansgar Clüsserath's winemaking philosophy focuses on respect for tradition and terroir. Eva Clüsserath patiently listens to her wines, allowing them the space they need. After an initial period of contact with the skins, the grapes are pressed and filled into oak foudres from the Mosel forests and 1,000-litre oak barrels, where natural fermentation begins. Bottling takes place only after an extensive period on the lees, well into the summer and after a single filtration step. This slow and natural way of vinification is the true cultural heritage of Mosel.
