Buy Wine from André Clouet
The André Clouet winery is located in the prestigious area of Bouzy, in the southern part of the Reims mountains. This winery has roots that, as they themselves express, "are lost in the mists of time".
Its founder worked as a printer at the court of Versailles during the reign of Louis XV. For several generations, his descendants continued this work, and the peculiar "Anciene Régime" style of their labels is a tribute to the founder of the house. It took more than two centuries and several generations of the Clouet family to acquire and consolidate the vineyard plots in Bouzy, which are still in the hands of the founder's descendants.Vineyards
The André Clouet winery owns 10 hectares classified as Grand Cru, located on chalky soils. These lands are located in the terroir of Bouzy, a place renowned for its exceptional quality. The winery's most outstanding plots are: "Les Petites Brousses", "Les Hautes Brousses", "Les Vaudeyants", "Les Ramoniers", "Les Ronsures", "Les Cercets", "Les Gouttes d'Or", "La Croix", "Les Varnets" and "La Village". All of them are classified as 100% Grand Cru, a distinction that only 17 of the 300 villages in Champagne have the honour of possessing. The Bouzy vineyards, with their cool, chalky-clay soils, are meticulously tended to ensure the perfect ripening of Pinot Noir, one of the most delicate varieties in the world.
Philosophy
The philosophy of the André Clouet winery focuses on meticulous attention to the soil, the vast terroir and the methods of cultivation and vinification. The winery firmly believes that the vineyards must be carefully tended. This is reflected in practices such as green pruning, minimal conservative maintenance and limited mineral treatments only. All this contributes to a special and unique terroir. As for the vinification, on the one hand, it is carried out in the old and traditional cellar with an old press that produces fine and harmonious nectars. On the other hand, the must is collected in small cone-shaped steel tanks, specifically designed by Jean Francoise, where fermentation takes place exclusively with indigenous yeasts.
