Description
On the sunny slopes of the mythical Brand in Turckheim, where legend has it that the sun defeated a dragon and left its heat trapped underground, Zind Humbrecht Riesling Roche Granitique is born. This wine, made from young vines grown on granitic soils with black mica and siliceous sands, is a vibrant and straightforward interpretation of the historic Grand Cru Brand. The combination of southern exposure and poor soils favours early ripening, without sacrificing freshness and structure, even in warm vintages. Here, the terroir of Alsace is expressed with intensity, and the Zind-Humbrecht family philosophy - deep respect for the soil, minimal cellar intervention - allows the wine to speak for itself.
Winemaking
The harvest for Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Roche Granitique is early, with a meticulous selection of clusters. Spontaneous fermentation lasts almost a year, in line with the natural rhythm of the wine. Ageing on fine lees adds texture and complexity without the use of oak, allowing the mineral character of the granite to come through clearly. Bottling is carried out without aggressive filtration, respecting the integrity of Zind Humbrecht Riesling Roche Granitique.
Taste
From the first nose, Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Roche Granitique reveals its origin with notes of white pear, green apple and citrus zest, enveloped in a veil of rock dust and subtle toasty aromas. The palate is straight and precise, with a juicy acidity that structures the passage and lengthens the experience. The granite translates into a dry, almost saline minerality that accompanies a long, elegant and slightly tannic finish. A Riesling of controlled tension, expressive but never exuberant, ideal for those who seek the purity of the soil in every sip. Perfect with seafood or fish in sauce, but also fascinating on its own, like a liquid meditation on the power of granite and the patience of time.
