Description
On a hillside forgotten after the First World War, Leonard Humbrecht saw potential where others saw difficulty. Thus was born Zind-Humbrecht's only red wine, on the steep and rugged Heimbourg de Turckheim, a plot of just 0.3 ha planted in Pinot Noir, on iron-rich oligocene limestone soils, with slopes of up to 50% and facing west. Here, the grapes ripen slowly, benefiting from the late evening light and the cool wind of the Munster valley, which preserves natural acidity and purity.
Winemaking
The production of Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Noir Heimbourg begins with a selective manual harvest, where each cluster is destemmed by hand with extreme delicacy. Fermentation takes place in open vats, with minimal intervention - only light pumping over - during 12 days of maceration. After this process, the wine is transferred to large barrels to finish fermentation and then aged for 16 months in used 228-litre barrels, allowing the wine to develop a light, precise and uncontrived structure. The aim is to capture the purity of the place and the soul of Alsatian Pinot Noir in all its authenticity.
Taste
Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Noir Heimbourg is a deep, bright ruby colour. On the nose, it displays a floral and fruity range: sour cherries, wild raspberries, violets, accompanied by notes of undergrowth, damp earth and a fine chalky minerality. Delicate and vibrant on the palate, with fine tannins, medium body and a precise acidity that defines its tension. The palate is agile and juicy, with a long, elegant finish, marked by an enveloping salinity and a touch of spice. It is a wine of Burgundian refinement with an Alsatian soul, ideal for those seeking freshness, elegance and authenticity.
