Description
A gentle breeze from the Ebro caresses the vineyards of La Llana when the Eguren family conceived this Sierra Cantabria Cuvée, a wine that seeks to capture the most honest essence of Tempranillo from La Rioja. Born from a single 10-hectare vineyard next to the river in Labastida, this cuvée represents a bold commitment to varietal purity and absolute respect for the Rioja terroir. Here, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa, viticulture is integrated, respectful of the environment, synchronised with the rhythms of nature. The soil, of alluvium, pebbles and fine sand, together with the continental climate with an Atlantic influence, gives tension, freshness and depth to the fruit.
Winemaking
The grapes that give life to Sierra Cantabria Cuvée are harvested by hand and arrive at the winery in optimal conditions. They are destemmed and undergo a pre-fermentative cold maceration, followed by fermentation with selected yeasts from the vineyards themselves. Contact with the skins is maintained for 13 days, including a post-fermentative maceration that extracts silky tannins and good structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak Bordeaux barrels (40% new), where Sierra Cantabria Cuvée also ages for 12 months, gaining complexity without losing precision.
Taste
Sierra Cantabria Cuvée expresses itself with a precise nose, where ripe red fruits dominate -cherry, wild strawberry- together with hints of liquorice, dried leaf and a subtle spicy background(pepper, clove, cocoa). The barrel notes are perfectly integrated: a slight toastiness, vanilla and an earthy touch reminiscent of the stony soil of La Llana. The palate is juicy, agile and deep. Polished tannins, firm acidity and a savoury texture make it a balanced wine, without excesses, with a long finish where fruit, minerality and a delicate bitterness merge. A modern Rioja with a classic soul: direct, sincere, with nerve and authenticity.
