Matalaz 2023
£25.96 (Inc. VAT bot. 75 cl.) / North Ireland
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The red 2023 Matalaz was produced with a mixture of Tempranillo, Mazuelo, Viura and Graciano from vines in the village of La Puebla de la Barca and in Laguardia. It fermented in a semi-carbonic maceration in 6,500-liter oak vats and matured in those vats for six to seven months. It has a nose of tempera paint, licorice and earth, a little rustic. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.6. It has grippy tannins, and the earthy and dark sensations make a comeback in the finish. 9,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024.
