Description

Maison Réno was founded in 2023 as Réno Pacalet’s personal project, following several harvests in Tuscany, his training in Beaune and years working alongside his father, Philippe Pacalet. Rather than waiting to acquire his own vineyards, he took a bold decision: to start out in a small shared winery in Chassagne Montrachet and forge his own identity by selecting grapes from plots capable of clearly expressing their origin. His philosophy prioritises sensitivity over technology, purity over artifice, and minimal intervention throughout the process.

Maison Réno Bourgogne Aligoté is made in equal parts from two plots located in Puligny Montrachet and Cheilly-lès-Maranges. Two landscapes with clay-limestone soils that impart tension, finesse and a pronounced minerality. Burgundy’s continental climate, with cool nights and slow ripening, preserves a vibrant acidity. Made exclusively from Aligoté grapes, the wine does not seek to imitate Chardonnay: it celebrates the variety’s direct, austere and energetic character.

Winemaking

The grapes for this Maison Réno Bourgogne Aligoté are vinified separately. The whole bunches are placed in the press and undergo a slow, gentle pressing over several hours, avoiding aggressive extraction. Each batch from a different vineyard ferments independently, and blending takes place only after malolactic fermentation has been completed. The wine spends around nine months in stainless steel tanks. There is no oak or toasty aroma: just time, lees and ageing designed to preserve its freshness. Finally, it is bottled with minimal intervention and the lowest possible levels of sulphites.

Taste

The nose of this Maison Réno Bourgogne Aligoté starts off taut and understated. Notes of lemon zest, lime, green apple and white flowers emerge, against a backdrop of damp chalk and cold stone. With aeration, notes of pear, fresh herbs and a slight salty sensation emerge. On the palate, it is direct and sharp. The acidity cuts through the citrus, tart apple and chalky minerality, whilst a subtle lees texture provides balance. The finish is dry, persistent and refreshing, with hints of lemon zest, crushed stone and sea salt. A serious, lively and unquestionably Burgundian white wine.
