Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The bottled 2023 Las Lamas is also stunning. But it's a vineyard that shines more in warm years, when it surpasses Moncerbal (like in 2022); in a cooler year, it suffers a bit more, while Moncerbal thrives. It comes from the 1.6 hectares they have in a single vineyard (they bought a last plot in 2017). It fermented with some full clusters in oak vats and matured in foudre and large barrels for 10.6 months. It comes in at 13% alcohol and with a pH of 3.61. It has the austerity of the 2023s, which is remarkable for a warmish year, and the balance that Las Lamas can have in dry years. But 2023 was not as extreme as 2022 was, and the competition from the 2023 Moncerbal was tough. It's more austere than the 2022 Las Lamas, consistent with the rest of the 2023s. 5,980 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2025.

Description
Las Lamas is a red wine made from a combination of Mencía and Alicante bouschet grapes by the Descendientes de J. Palacios winery under the D.O. Bierzo in Castilla y León, Spain.
These grapes come from estate-owned vineyards in Las Lamas that are between 60 and 100 years old at an altitude of between 660 to 730 metres above sea level, which makes it a surprising red wine.
The soils are slate with a thick laminar structure, horizontally and obliquely situated, with sandstones and clays, with a continental climate with a strong Atlantic influence.
Winemaking
The vineyards from which the grapes come from are worked according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture and using indigenous yeasts. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small wooden vats. After maceration for 39 days, malolactic fermentation takes place in wooden vats. The wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 17 months and bottled unfiltered.
Taste
Las Lamas is a wine with mineral and balsamic notes and a smooth, round aroma. In the mouth it provides a stimulating sensation on the palate, with characteristics of a dense red wine, with good acidity, fine tannins and spicy hints.
An elegant and surprising red wine.
The red wine Las Lamas is produced by the Descendientes de J. Palacios winery. It is a deep wine marked by balance and elegance with a high ageing potential.
At a gastronomic level it is the perfect accompaniment to dishes with sausages, big game stews, idiazábal cheese or dishes with black truffle.
