Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From a north-facing Pinot Noir vineyard in Chavot-Courcourt planted in 1983, where 1.5 meters of clay rest above limestone, Laherte’s 2020 Blanc de Noirs Les Rouges Maisons was matured for 18 months in oak with minimal lees stirring, then disgorged in November 2024 with two grams per liter dosage. Entirely from the 2020 vintage, it presents aromas of pear, orange zest and pastry mingling with hints of nutmeg. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, textural and vibrant, with bright acidity and a long, chalky finish. Despite extended élevage, it retains freshness and balance.

Description
From Chavot-Courcourt, on the southern slopes of Épernay, Aurélien Laherte continues a family tradition with a bold approach that is deeply connected to its origins. Laherte Frères Les Rouges Maisons Extra Brut is born from a single plot of Pinot Noir planted in 1983, on a north-facing slope where 1.5 metres of clay, flint and schist lie on a chalky subsoil. Here, ripening is slow, the acidity remains intact, and the tension of the soil translates into an austere, refined and precise profile. Laherte decided to keep this parcel in order to produce a Blanc de Noirs that speaks without make-up of Pinot Noir in its purest expression.
Winemaking
The grapes that give life to Laherte Frères Les Rouges Maisons Extra Brut, harvested by hand at the right moment, are gently pressed in a traditional press. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, the wine rests for 18 months on its fine lees in the same barrels, without frequent batonnage, respecting the times and avoiding unnecessary interventions. Disgorging is done by hand, with a minimum dosage of 2 g/l, underlining the Extra Brut character and mineral precision that define this cuvée.
Taste
On the nose, Laherte Frères Les Rouges Maisons Extra Brut unfurls a delicate but profound perfume: notes of ripe pear, orange peel, freshly baked brioche and a spicy background of nutmeg and almond. When oxygenated, nuances of dried white flowers and a subtle hint of baked apple emerge. On the palate, it is vibrant and textural, with a sharp acidity that runs through the palate with tension and clarity. Despite its long ageing, it retains freshness and energy. The finish is long, saline, with a lingering chalky trace reminiscent of the soil in which it was born.
Laherte Frères Les Rouges Maisons Extra Brut is a Blanc de Noirs Champagne that seeks no concessions: dry, sculpted, honest. A Pinot Noir Champagne for those who seek precision rather than exuberance, minerality rather than sweetness. Ideal for those who enjoy Champagnes with backbone, structure and elegance without artifice.
