Description
From the heart of the Loire Valley, in the commune of Brézé, comes one of the most vibrant and profound whites of the Saumur: Guiberteau Saumur Le Bourg Brézé, made by Romain Guiberteau. After leaving behind his career in law, Romain returned to the family estate in the 1990s, determined to reclaim historic vineyards under a rigorous organic approach. His commitment: to express with purity the identity of Chenin Blanc on unique calcareous and clay-limestone soils, among the most coveted in the region.
Brézé, with its altitude and poor soils, offers an ideal setting for tense, long-lived and minerally wines. The cool climate with oceanic influence allows slow maturation, preserving natural acidity and freshness.
Winemaking
Guiberteau Saumur Le Bourg Brézé is harvested by hand with rigorous selection, and the bunches are pressed whole with extreme gentleness. Spontaneous fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, without excessive control, allowing the grapes and the terroir to express themselves freely. The wine ages for 12 months on fine lees, in used barrels, without bâttonage and with minimal intervention. The aim is not volume or artifice, but precision, texture and tension.
Taste
On the nose, Guiberteau Saumur Le Bourg Brézé offers a symphony of ripe citrus, camomile blossom, white pear and a background of wet chalk and sea saltiness. On the palate, it is firm, delineated, with a sharp, pure acidity that sweeps across the palate with intensity. The palate is taut, but with a creamy texture that provides balance. Long finish, with echoes of raw almond, ginger and limestone, lingering with understated elegance.
A Chenin Blanc without make-up, deeply linked to its soil, which speaks softly but leaves an indelible mark. Ideal for those looking for white wines with character, precision and soul.
