Description
From the heart of Alsace, Jean-François Ginglinger makes Ginglinger Rieslinger without artifice, guided by a biodynamic philosophy and an absolute respect for the land. Heir to a wine-growing lineage with roots dating back to 1610, he made a radical decision: to cultivate according to Demeter principles and to bottle without fining, filtering or correction. The vineyard sits on limestone and chalky sandstone, poor but vibrant soils that impart minerality and energy. The story goes that, in one of the first vintages, a slightly cloudy batch cast doubt on its marketability, but Jean defended it firmly: "that turbidity speaks of the soil". Such is its character: firm, transparent, uncompromising.
Winemaking
The grapes for Ginglinger Riesling, grown organically and certified biodynamic, are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place spontaneously in traditional oak vats, without temperature control or additives. After fermentation, the wine rests for several months on its fine lees, gaining depth and texture. It is not filtered or clarified before bottling, and no sulphites are added beyond the minimum necessary. The result is a wine that faithfully expresses the character of the terroir.
Taste
Ginglinger Riesling is taut and deep, with a nose that combines notes of green apple, candied lemon, dried flowers and a delicate spicy background. The palate is upright, with vibrant acidity and a saline nerve that runs through the palate like a thread. Hints of lime, citrus peel and wet stone appear, all wrapped in a slightly creamy texture that brings balance. The finish is long, dry and mineral, with a lingering chalky echo. An unadorned wine for palates seeking purity, energy and a direct reading of the Alsatian landscape.
