Description
Edetària Via Edetana Blanco is conceived as a statement of the landscape rather than simply a varietal white wine. It originates in Gandesa, in the heart of the Terra Alta DO, where Garnacha Blanca finds one of its finest terroirs and where the winery works exclusively with its own vineyards, employing sustainable viticulture and paying close attention to the terroir. The name refers to the ancient Via Edetana, a nod to Mediterranean heritage and a way of understanding wine as culture, soil and time. Here, the bold decision is not to seek easy exuberance, but to let old vines planted in honeycomb and tapàs soils speak for themselves, to craft a white wine with depth, tension and authenticity. Edetària Via Edetana Blanco is made from 100% Garnacha Blanca sourced from selected plots, an iconic variety in a region that is essential for this grape.
Production
In the winery, Edetària Via Edetana Blanco is vinified by plot to preserve the nuance and unique character of each origin. Next comes the blending, seeking a balance between volume, purity and mineral depth. Half of the wine is aged for four months in 500-litre French oak barrels, whilst the other half remains on its fine lees in tanks, a dual production process that refines the texture without obscuring the identity of the Garnacha Blanca. The result does not seek to make the wood the star of the show, but rather to achieve breadth, precision and a sense of serene depth prior to bottling.
Taste
In the glass, Edetària Via Edetana Blanco presents a clean, ripe white fruit nose, more pear and white peach flesh than exotic notes, always underpinned by a hint of stone, fennel and an echo of damp plaster. On the palate, it is full-bodied, almost enveloping, but immediately tightens: there is a creaminess from the lees, a well-integrated touch of oak, and then a fresh, salty and mineral twist that refines the whole. This is not a strident or tropical white wine; it is rather serious, Mediterranean and stony, with restrained fruit and a long, elegant and slightly smoky finish, as if the Terra Alta Garnacha Blanca left behind a trail of chalk, dry grass and a clean breeze.
