Description
Domaine de Marcoux produces thisLa Lorentine cuvéefrom Saint Laurent-des-Arbres, in the heart of the Lirac AOC, on soils of limestone, red clay, sand, gravel and pebbles that perfectly encapsulate the character of the southern Rhône. The estate has been in the hands of a family with deep roots in the land for centuries, and it was Sophie and Catherine Armenier who, in 1995, took a bold step by taking the helm of the domaine with a clear vision: to tend the vineyard with the utmost respect and let the wine speak for itself, unadorned. Organic cultivation began in 1991 and since then the philosophy has remained the same: to care for the soil in order to produce lively, taut and authentic wines. Domaine de Marcoux La Lorentine stems from this desire to present Lirac with seriousness and without folklore, based on a classic blend of Garnacha, Mourvèdre and Syrah, which finds a particularly crisp and stony expression here.
Winemaking
The harvest at Domaine de Marcoux La Lorentine is carried out by hand, and the grapes are brought into the winery in small crates to preserve their integrity. Following a double selection, the berries are destemmed, crushed and cooled before pre-fermentation maceration, which refines the aromatic profile. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts under temperature-controlled conditions, with daily pumping-over to extract flavour without making the wine harsh. The wine is then aged in concrete tanks and large, used wooden casks, always prioritising purity over the influence of the cask. The result is a red wine aged gently, bottled after a long period of rest and without losing the identity of the terroir.
Flavour
In the glass, Domaine de Marcoux La Lorentine opens with notes of violets, raspberry, cherry, dark plum and a background of dried herbs, black olives, aniseed and pepper. On the palate, it is juicy and deep, with a very appealing silky texture, but its greatest strength is its balance: it is neither heavy nor overpowering, unfolding with freshness, fine tannins and an energy that prolongs the sip. The finish leaves notes of dark fruit, warm spice and scrubland, with a Mediterranean profile that is serious, clean and immensely drinkable.
