Features

Description

Chartogne-Taillet Chemin de Reims Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut is mainly composed of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Arbanne, from vines planted between 1980 and 2011 on a total area of 1 hectare.
The soil where these vines grow is brown and orange-red in colour, with a balanced and porous sandy composition, rich in iron. This soil retains adequate moisture, encouraging the roots to explore all the depths of the soil. The iron present gives the roots a pinkish hue and a twisted shape, signs of optimal soil for vine cultivation. The wine benefits from a south-south-east exposure, which favours ripening conditions.

Winemaking

Chemin de Reims is a wine made from Chardonnay grapes harvested on the plot of the same name (Lieu-dit), located in the Merfy hills. This wine is characterised by being decidedly ample and structured, elegant, round and powerful at the same time.
Chemin de Reims is vinified and matured in 350 to 600 litre oak barrels for approximately 10 months. This period in barrels not only contributes to its complexity and structure, but also imparts subtle and characteristic notes that integrate harmoniously with the fruity flavours of the Chardonnay. After this period, the wine is aged on its lees for about 4 years. This extended ageing on fine lees gives the wine a creamy texture and additional aromatic complexity, enhancing its character and depth of flavour.
The wine has a low final dosage of 3 grams per litre, classifying it as an Extra Brut Champagne. This minimal dosage allows the wine to express more authentically and clearly the characteristics of the terroir and the grapes from which it originates, resulting in a Champagne that is a true reflection of its place of origin.

Taste

Chemin de Reims Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut has a pale colour, with bright yellow highlights on a green background. Its taste is a unique combination due to the iron-rich soil in which the grapes grow. Although the Chardonnay predominates, the wine has a sanguine texture and a solid structure on the palate, with a tense finish. This wine is warm, with medium salivation on the back of the tongue, and a tannic bitterness that coats the palate.
