Bera Vittorio Arcese 2021
£19.38 (Inc. VAT & Duties bot. 75 cl.) / United Kingdom
Bera Vittorio Arcese, from the Piemonte region in Italy, is a white wine resulting from the blending of several grape varieties: Arneis, Cortese, Sauvignon Blanc, Favorita and Vermentino. These varieties, co-planted and co-fermented, give life to a blend that combines tradition and modernity. The name Arcese comes from a playful combination of Arneis and Cortese, which have historically been the basis of this white blend.
The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed, then fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, without the addition of sulphur. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages on its lees for a year in the same cement tanks. It is bottled unfiltered and with a touch of residual sugar, which allows for a small amount of refermentation that adds a touch of carbonation when the bottle is opened, an intentional effect. Whether or not SO2 is added depends on the vintage, and if it is applied, only one gram per hectolitre is added at bottling.
Bera Vittorio Arcese presents a straw yellow colour with greenish reflections, indicative of a fresh wine ready to be enjoyed in its youth. On the nose, it displays floral and white fruit notes. On the palate, it is light and balanced, never tiring, a distinctive characteristic of Bera Vittorio wines. With an aromatic touch on the finish, it is ideal for pairing with seafood and anchovies. For vegetarians, vegetables are also an excellent choice.
