Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The super young and tender Verdejo 2023 Cucú is their regional white that mixes places and soils, using organic grapes only from the zones of Segovia and Valladolid. It fermented in stainless steel and some 10% in used 300-liter barrels to give it some more complexity and unctuosity. There is a pulse of freshness, but it's also ripe and has 13.5% alcohol. It's very young, tender and varietal, getting away from fermentative aromas and, of course, yeasts, as they want to show the zone and the variety (and the year). It has some medicinal and balsamic notes from the youth, and underneath is the core of white flowers and fruit. It has volume and structure but is still fresh, light and easy to drink; it has the classical Verdejo bitter twist in the finish. They picked the grapes quite early in La Seca, and Segovia was much later. 80,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024. It's bottled in two moments, and the one I tasted from February 2024.

Description
Barco del Corneta Cucú is an aged white wine made exclusively from Verdejo grapes by the Barco del Corneta winery in La Seca, VT Castilla y León.
The grapes used to make this wine come from young vineyards located in Paraje de Cantarranas, in La Seca (Valladolid). These grapes grow on sandy soils, with abundant pebbles and in the deepest levels composed of limestone and clay located 700 metres above sea level.
These vineyards have been cultivated with ecological techniques, respecting the environment and the diversity of the vineyard.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in 15 kg crates. At the winery they are fermented in 300 and 500 litre oak barrels with local yeasts and left to mature for 8 months in French oak barrels. After this process, they are left in stainless steel tanks for 5 months.
Taste
Barco del Corneta Cucú is a wine with citrus aromas, accompanied by floral aromas and herbal notes. The palate is unctuous and fresh, with good acidity, volume and an easy passage.
A structured and elegant wine.
The spirit of the Barco del Corneta Cucú wine is to make a more accessible Verdejo, but one that represents the personality of the Barco del Corneta winery.
This winery is the result of Beatriz Herranz's personal and professional experience after years of being linked to the world of vineyards and wine.
In the gastronomic field it is perfect as an aperitif and ideal to accompany white meats, soft cheeses, game, rice, pasta, or oriental cuisine, fish and seafood.
A simply delicious and original white wine from Bodega Barco del Corneta! Try it, it will surprise you!
