Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2023 Alanda Blanco is stunning, pale and backward, with crystalline purity and a delicate texture, precise, symmetric and chiseled. As it sat in the glass, it started to unfurl elegant aromas of wildflowers and notions of wet granite. It's tasty, long and persistent, with an ethereal character that is captivating. This is a very serious vintage of Alanda, with potential to age but already approachable and delicious. It's intellectually rewarding.

Features

Description

If there is one wine capable of capturing the essence of Monterrei, it is Alanda Blanco. It is not just another bottle on the shelf, but a gateway to the most authentic Galicia. It is made by Quinta da Muradella, a winery that has set out to bring the region's indigenous varieties back to life with absolute respect for the land and time.
The secret of Alanda Blanco is in the blend: Treixadura, Doña Blanca and Verdelho, a trio that works perfectly. Each one brings its own character: freshness, structure, minerality? It is not a random combination, but a reflection of the different soils and altitudes of Monterrei. We are talking about vineyards in small plots, some with decomposed slate soils, others with granite or clay soils. A natural mosaic that is reflected in every sip.

Winemaking

In the winery, Alanda Blanco follows an artisanal process. The grapes ferment together, something unusual, but which makes perfect sense here. They are progressively incorporated into the tank, as if a painting were being done in layers. Then, part of the wine rests in a 1,500-litre French oak foudre for 15 months, while the rest is kept in stainless steel to maintain its freshness. The result: a pure wine, with an almost crystalline transparency.

Taste

Alanda Blanco is not the kind of wine that comes with fireworks. It is discreet at first, but if you give it a moment, it starts to tell its story. The first thing you'll notice is its mineral profile, with an aroma reminiscent of wet slate after rain. There are dried flowers in the background, like a delicate trail left by its perfume.
On the palate, the acidity is perfectly measured, just enough to give that sensation of freshness without being aggressive. It moves elegantly, leaving a trail that combines energy and depth. Its balance is its great virtue: neither too fruity nor too austere. Simply, an honest white that conveys what it is without artifice.
Alanda Blanco, a wine for those who enjoy details, for those who are looking for something more than an easy sip. If you have ever wondered what Monterrei tastes like, here is the answer.
