Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Gorvia Blanco shows a slightly more Mediterranean nose with aromas of dried herbs and pollen, with hints of camphor, faintly balsamic, a little more developed given its age and the warm conditions of the year. It has a seamless, tender palate with very fine granularity, and it finishes dry and with deep, pungent flavors.

Description
There are wines that tell stories. When you uncork them, they take you to a special corner of the world. Gorvia Blanco is one of those wines. It is not just a white wine from Monterrei; it is the reflection of a vineyard with history, of a land that breathes minerality and of a winemaker who understands wine as a language of its own.
Behind this project is José Luis Mateo, soul and mind of Quinta da Muradella. His philosophy is simple and radical at the same time: let the vineyard speak. He has spent decades studying his soils, working in balance with nature and fine-tuning his way of interpreting each plot. His commitment is to freshness, authenticity and the ability of his wines to excite.
Gorvia Blanco is born in a plot of one hectare, located on a hillside next to the Castle of Monterrei. It is a singular vineyard, planted 38 years ago and patiently transformed to goblet training. The soil, a mixture of decomposed slate, imprints an unmistakable mineral personality.
The main variety is Doña Blanca, with a small percentage of Treixadura and Verdello Antiguo. A trio that provides structure, delicacy and depth.
Winemaking
There is no rush here. Fermentation takes place in a 1,500-litre foudre and in a 500-litre barrel, both used and neutral, to respect the purity of the fruit as much as possible. Gorvia Blanco then spends a year on its lees, gaining texture and complexity without losing precision. It is then refined for another year in stainless steel tanks before bottling in November. Only 2,500 numbered bottles. A small treasure.
Taste
In Gorvia Blanco, the first sip is pure freshness, but with layers that gradually appear. Notes of fennel, a subtle smoky background, the sensation of crushed stones under the tongue. There is tension, well-integrated acidity and a long, clean finish that leaves you wanting more. It is one of those wines that seem alive, that evolve in the glass and force you to pay attention.
This is a white with character, but without excesses. If you let it breathe, it will thank you for it. If you accompany it with a good conversation, it will be even better. Bravo, José Luis Mateo.
