Marqués de Griñón is one of the referent wineries in Spain with origins that date back to year 1292. However, it is not until 1974 when, under the nowadays owner Carlos Falcó, Marqués de Griñón wines start to get worldwide recognition. Because Carlos Falcó, besides having studied oenology at the University of California (Davis) has also counted with the support of the most celebrated wine world authorities who have collaborated in his estate to produce the most reputable and pioneering wines: in his early years (1982) Emile Peynaud, teacher at the Unit of Research and Education of Bordeaux, is counsellor to the Falcó family; en 1991 Michel Rolland, starts working as winery adviser and Marqués de Griñón is the first Spanish wine producer to cultivate Petit Verdot and Syrah; in 1993, Richard Smart, collaborates with them on viticulture subjects and in 2006 the acclaimed engineer Claude Bourguignon ( Romanée Conti and Domaine Leflaive advisor) joins the vineyard equipment, establishing new wine making techniques.

Marqués de Griñón winery has 50 hectares at Malpica de Tajo County, Toledo province, where Tajo River flows near the vineyards. Here the climate is soft continental, with dry and hot summers and cold winters. Surprisingly, this is the region with most sunlight hours in the whole Iberian Peninsula. Soils are made up of limestone covered by a thick clay layer; some anticipate that this is the perfect land to produce the most elegant wine in the world. All the varieties in the manor are foreign (Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot), but Graciano.

Since 2003 Marqués de Griñón gets its own designation of origin: Dominio de Valdepusa. How are Griñón wines? Dominio de Valdepusa Petit Verdot is worth tasting, as it is the best Spanish Petit Verdot for sure. A dense, mineral wine, with delicious cedar and undergrowth aroma. Dominio de Valdepusa Syrah is intense, tannic, with a weft of wild black fruits and violets. A Syrah concentrated stock? Dominio de Valdepusa Cabernet Sauvignon is for sure the jewel of the crown. It gracefully balances a fresh structure with delicate spices.  Marqués de Griñón Emeritus is the result of Bordeaux trilogy varieties well blended. Maybe the ultimate expression of the winery. Summa Varietalis is a vigorous wine that needs time in the bottle to soften the tannic deluge inside. And El Rincón from a parcel in Madrid, where the soils are acid and granitic on a clay stratum. It is a fresh, juicy, Atlantic wine!
