Buy Wine from Luís Anxo Rodríguez Vázquez
In the heart of the Arnoia Valley, in the province of Ourense, Galicia, lies the Luis Anxo Rodríguez Vázquez winery, an enclave that combines wine-making tradition with an unwavering passion for terroir .
Vineyards
Luis Anxo's vineyards cover 3.7 hectares in the Arnoia valley, worked on traditional terraces or socalcos, and are divided into multiple plots, reflecting the Galician smallholding where the traditional measure, the copelo, is equivalent to 21 square metres. He also owns a 1.3 hectare estate in Ribadavia.
The terroir is characterised by sandy-siliceous hillside soils, ideal for the cultivation of native varieties. The region's climate, influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic, gives the grapes a characteristic freshness and acidity. In the vineyard, Luis Anxo practices environmentally friendly viticulture, avoiding the use of herbicides and insecticides, although he does use fungicides due to the threat of mildew in the area.
Philosophy
Luis Anxo's philosophy focuses on the recovery and valorisation of native varieties, such as Treixadura, Albariño, Lado and Torrontés for whites, and Brancellao, Caíño and Ferrol for reds. This approach aims to produce wines that faithfully express the character of the Galician terroir .
The winemaking is done by estates and plots, allowing each wine to reflect the particularities of its origin. The range of wines includes labels such as Eidos Ermos, designed for quicker consumption, and the Escolma, from the best vineyards, with low yields and prolonged bottle ageing, resulting in deep and expressive wines.
Luis Anxo 's dedication has been internationally recognised. For example, his wine A Torna Dos Pasás Escolma received an outstanding score in The Wine Advocate magazine, reflecting the quality and authenticity of his wines.
In every bottle of Luis Anxo Rodríguez Vázquez 's wines, one can perceive the passion and commitment to the land, offering wine lovers an experience that connects deeply with the soul of the Ribeiro.
