Buy Wine from Jérôme Balmet
Jérôme Balmet is the perfect blend of yoga and wine. This can be seen in his bottles, which thanks to his hours of meditation and martial arts practice, he has created a spiritual wine. He expresses himself as he is. A personal journey through Asia, which helped push him to have his own winery to dedicate himself to do what he loves most: create natural wines.
Jérôme Balmet's Vineyards
He produced his first vintage in 2012, after borrowing a hectare of Gamay in his hometown of Vaux-en-Beaujolais. He learned the trade working hand in hand with Jean-Claude Lapalu and Mathieu Lapierre. He now owns 3.5 hectares of vineyards, which are divided between the towns of Vaux-en-Beaujolais and Saint-Etienne-des-Oullières, south of Brouilly. In the former, it has 50-year-old vineyards planted on blue granite on a steep hillside. In the case of the second vineyard, it is a heavier soil at the bottom of the valley, and so the wines produced have a higher density. Everything is grown organically with some biodynamic practices. The wines of Jérôme Balmet
The grapes undergo a light spontaneous carbonic maceration, in ceramic eggs, in his old concrete tanks and foudres. His young red gamay, Jérôme Balmet Barbe Rousse 2018, is fragrant and light, ideal for taking to a dinner party with friends. It pairs very well with Iberian and white meat pairings. The wines are bottled unclarified, unfiltered and with no added sulphur dioxide.
