Buy Wine from Château L'Évangile
Château L'Évangile is one of the most prestigious properties of Pomerol commune. Settled at the east of the municipality, it borders Château Petrus to the north and Château La Conseillante and Cheval Blanc to the south. This is the most interesting area of Pomerol, where well-balanced wines are produced.
The winery belongs to the Libourne department, located at the right bank of Gironde estuary, where Merlot variety develops splendidly. L'Évangile is born in 1741 thanks to Léglise family but ever since several owners have managed the company. In 1990 it is finally purchased by Domaines Barons de Rothschild Group, owners also of Château Lafite Rothschild. Château L'Évangile soils are sand and clay with gravel remains that allow roots to penetrate deep and overcome the lack of rainfall during their vegetative period.
The most astonishing aspect of L'Évangile, also a bit odd, is that the winery has Michel Rolland as wine-making consultant, a fact stirring up controversy as it belongs to Lafite Rothschild, a winery that has always been a symbol of classy, elegant and refined. We have nothing against Monsieur Rolland, but truth is that his way of understanding wine borders its globalization. Those wines dare being modern, global, over-ripened and structured, either produced at Chile, California or Bordeaux. Why should they need Rolland's advice when we are talking about Lafite and a great balanced area? When carrying out a taste of vertical vintages one notices how Château L'Évangile style has developed into an impacting wine where Merlot fruit is strengthen and the outcome is a sweet-toothed, round, fleshy and without tannins. Now the question is, are the currently produced wines at L'Évangile good for lay down? Only time can tell and put everyone in its place, setting fashions aside.
Two wines, Château L'Évangile and Blason de L'Évangile, and 60.000 bottles is the whole production of Château L'Évangile. If you are an enthusiast of modern wines, this is your option!
