Description
Terra Remota was founded in a secluded corner of the Alt Empordà, between Capmany and Sant Climent Sescebes, amidst a landscape of woodland, granite and Mediterranean light that perfectly explains the winery’s name: a remote, secluded land, almost cut off from the hustle and bustle. Terra Remota is situated within the Empordà Designation of Origin (D.O.) and operates under certified organic practices, with a focus on the utmost respect for the environment, using no herbicides, and tending the plots and vines so that the vineyard can truly interact with the soil. The estate is characterised by its isolated location, sheltered by the Albera range and influenced by the tramontana wind, with soils of a distinctively granitic profile that impart tension and vigour. In Terra Remota Tan Natural, this philosophy translates into a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon – an uncompromising and carefully considered combination.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, and at Terra Remota Tan Natural, the work in the winery focuses more on the fruit’s genuine expression than on technical embellishment. Maceration lasts three weeks and extraction is carried out through daily treading, a deliberately gentle method chosen so as not to make the wine harsh. It is, moreover, a natural and organic wine, with a profile that emphasises the purity, energy and transparency of the fruit rather than any hint of toasting or oak.
Flavour
In the glass, Terra Remota Tan Natural ranges from a vivid garnet to violet hues. The nose is fresh, direct, almost crisp, with the sensation of healthy, freshly picked grapes, plenty of cherry, blackberry, cassis and crushed red fruit, accompanied by a hint of spice reminiscent of pepper and star anise. On the palate, it does not seek excessive volume, but rather a sense of pulse: it is straightforward, tender at first, then firm, with young, fine tannins providing just the right amount of grip. There is a very clean juiciness, fresh fruit without any sweetness, and behind it emerges that earthy, spicy undertone that lends it a sense of depth. The overall impression is very appealing for anyone seeking a Mediterranean red wine that is fresh, expressive and possesses a refined rusticity.
