Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The white 2020 Capellanía was produced with the Viura from the vineyard that gives the wine its name, six hectares planted in 1945 at the highest altitude of the Ygay estate. The grapes were picked the 22nd and 23rd of September, the juice fermented in concrete without malolactic and the wine matured in used French oak barrels for 20 months and a further 15 months in concrete, as they are increasing the time in concrete and also want to keep the bottles for a little longer. It's ripe at 14% alcohol, with a low pH of 3.08. It's pale and harmonious, complex and expressive, open and aromatic, with notes of white flowers and fruit. It was very recently bottled, and the wine feels very harmonious and didn't show anything strange or dizzy. It's still a baby but a balanced baby, with its baby fat, a little less because of the time in concrete. It keeps the poise in a more challenging year. 35,420 bottles and 1,204 magnums produced. It was bottled in December 2024. This will be released in late 2025.

Description
Marqués de Murrieta, Capellanía Reserva, is a white wine made from 100% Viura grapes by the Marqués de Murrieta winery.
These grapes come from a vineyard called Capellanía, which gives its name to this wine, and was planted in 1945. This vineyard is located on a plateau at an altitude of 485 metres above sea level, in the highest part of the Finca Ygay in Rioja Alta.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand. Once in the winery, after destemming and gently crushing the bunches, they are gently and slowly pressed to extract the aromatic potential of the grapes.
The must is then fermented in a stainless steel tank at a controlled temperature for 24 days. The wine is aged for 15 months in 225-litre new French oak barrels.
Taste
Marqués de Murrieta, Capellanía Reserva, is balanced on the palate, with texture, refreshing acidity and a long, lingering finish.
A white wine born to surprise for its singularity.
Marqués de Murrieta, Capellanía Reserva, is a white wine whose complexity and structure break with all standards. In addition, it has a magnificent potential for longevity to evolve and endure in the bottle.
In the gastronomic field, it is perfect as an accompaniment to a wide variety of dishes, including fish, meat and Iberian cured meats.
