Description
The story of Leirana Cos Pés stems from the non-conformist spirit of Rodrigo Méndez, soul of Forjas del Salnés, in the heart of Rías Baixas. This wine emerges as a radical exploration of Albariño, inspired by ancestral practices and the work of producers such as Foradori. With vines over 40 years old planted in granitic and sandy soils on the shores of the Atlantic, the aim was to go beyond the usual varietal profile. The decision to ferment on skins - and some of the stems - for two months was a risky one, but it allowed us to capture a deeper, more tactile dimension of Albariño, taking it into almost meditative territory, beyond the fruit.
Winemaking
The grapes destined for Leirana Cos Pés are vatted with their skins for 60 days in a process of prolonged maceration, without additives or technological intervention. Part of the stalk is retained, providing a delicate but present tannic structure. After fermentation, Leirana Cos Pés is aged for 12 months in 500-litre used oak barrels, where it gains volume, texture and complexity without any marked influence from the wood. It is bottled without fining or filtering, respecting its natural character as much as possible.
Taste
Visually, Leirana Cos Pés surprises with its bright amber colour, a reflection of its vinification with skins. On the nose, it is far from the typical Albariño: notes of hops, tangerine peel, infusion of dried herbs and a slight earthy background. On the palate, it is full, dry and textured, with soft tannins and a very polished acidity. Mineral notes, ripe citrus and a hint of stone fruit. The finish is long, with a herbal and slightly bitter persistence that invites further exploration. Leirana Cos Pés is not a wine of concessions, but a signature Albariño, intense and contemplative.
