Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 La Sort de Ponent is a Garnacha from a single vineyard of three small, northwest-facing terraces on clay-limestone soils that produce fresh and silky Garnachas. The vineyard was planted in the 1980s in La Morera de Montsant on the road to Scala Dei on the slopes of Montsant Mountains at an altitude of 700 meters. It fermented with full clusters, then the wine matured in 500-liter barrels for 15 months. It's a stunning Garnacha from Priorat, with finesse and a beautiful mouthfeel. 2021 was a very complete year in Priorat, and this is superb. It comes in at 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.4 and 5.2 grams of acidity. 660 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023. It's aging at a very slow pace. I also tasted the 2019 and 2020, the first two vintages, to see the evolution of the wine; the 2019 was slightly more rustic, and there was a slight herbal twist in the 2020.
