Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I tasted two vintages, 2017 and 2018, from most reds, which is the case with the 2018 Goliardo Caíño. It was produced with grapes from vines ranging between five and 200 years of age planted on sandy granite soils with boulders. Here, the destemmed grapes fermented in a 4,600-liter oak vat, where it matured after fermenting and being pressed for one year, the first year they've done that. It has an unusual nose with notes of ferns and seafood, but with time in the glass, it developed the floral and peppery notes that are so characteristic in the Caíño from Forjas. It was bottled unfiltered and unfined for the first time, and there is nuance and detail like never before. This is juicy and pure and should develop nicely in bottle. 3,800 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2020.
