Côtes du Roussillon Villages
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Gauby 2010 Cotes du Roussillon Villages La Jasse – for more on whose site and vines, of which this is the first solo appearance, see my accompanying review of the 2011 – features sweetly–ripe plum tinged with sage, plum pit and resin, a firm palate feel and slightly gum-numbing finishing tannins diminishing the pleasure here significantly vis-a-vis the corresponding 2011, and what hint there is of that wine’s strikingly mineral marine dimension is reduced to mere alkalinity. Still, the up-front richness and sheer grip here are certainly impressive, and perhaps the wine’s limitations can be chalked-up to a first solo effort with this site, or may fade somewhat in bottle. I’d be inclined to monitor this carefully if cellaring any; but I expect that it will remain vigorous though at least 2020.
