Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2014 Reserva has more creaminess and influence from the élevage than other wines from more recent years. It's very traditional, with balsamic notes of incense and cigar ash intermixed with forest floor and wild berries all in good harmony, coming through as integrated and balanced. The palate is medium to full-bodied with some dusty tannins and a twist of rusticity. After 18 months in French oak barrels, it was kept in concrete for two more years. It's a canonical blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano. 30,000 bottles and 1,500 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2018.

Features

Description

Gómez Cruzado Reserva is a red wine made by Bodegas y Viñedos Gómez Cruzado from Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha grape varieties. It comes from vineyards with an average age of over 30 years located in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria and around the lower course of the Najerilla River in La Rioja, Spain.
These vineyards are characterized by alluvial soils which provide grapes with greater ripeness and elegance. They also have clayey, calcareous soils, which give the wines greater structure and silkiness.
Gómez Cruzado Reserva is a red wine that can be used gastronomically as an accompaniment to spicy stews, grilled red meats, roast lamb and suckling pig.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand in 200 kg boxes and the bunches are selected in the winery. In the winery it undergoes 3 days of cold pre-fermentation maceration, with daily pumping over and delestage during fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel truncated cone-shaped tanks.
The wine is aged for 18 months in Bordeaux barrels, 50% of which are made of American oak and the other 50% of new, two-year-old French oak. It then rests for two years in the bottle before being marketed.

Taste

Gómez cruzado reserva is an easy-drinking, velvety wine with good structure. It has adequate acidity and balance, soft tannins and a fruity taste.

A wine with high intensity and fruity flavor.

Gómez Cruzado Reserva is a excellent representation of the wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Gómez Cruzado. It is a red wine that becomes elegant with a classic Riojan style where the tertiary aromas of aging stand out.
