Fernando de Castilla Solera Gran Reserva
£50.21 (Inc. VAT bot. 70 cl.) / North Ireland

Description
There is an air of quiet determination in every bottle of Fernando de Castilla Solera Gran Reserva. The bodega, located in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera, is the result of an unconventional vision: to rescue the essence of Andalusian brandy and refine it into a pure, elegant and uncompromising expression. Founded by Fernando Andrada-Vanderwilde in the 1970s and renovated by Jan Pettersen in 1999, the house has built its reputation without the need for artifice, relying on the quality of the raw materials, the patience of time and the nobility of oak.
Winemaking
Fernando de Castilla Solera Gran Reserva is made mainly from Palomino and possibly Airén grapes. Distilled in traditional stills, it begins its ageing in French oak barrels for three years and continues for at least nine more years in casks filled with oloroso and amontillado, under the soleras and criaderas system. This prolonged ageing gives it depth, smoothness and a round texture that defies expectations. There are no added colourings or sugars, and the bottling preserves its authenticity with an alcohol content of 38%.
Taste
To the eye, Fernando de Castilla Solera Gran Reserva has a bright mahogany amber hue. The nose offers a symphony of vanilla, toasted caramel, orange peel and spicy oak, all elegantly integrated. On the palate, Fernando de Castilla Solera Gran Reserva is dry, warm and round, with notes of dried apricot, nutmeg, dates , sultanas, and a subtle background of bitter cocoa. Its texture is enveloping and silky, without being cloying. The finish is long, slightly spicy, with an echo of dried fruits and noble wood that lingers in the memory.
A refined yet soulful brandy, ideal for those seeking depth, authenticity and a restrained elegance that reveals itself sip by sip.
