The single-vineyard 2022 El Velado is the wine from a southeast-facing plot of 0.93 hectares in the village of Lanciego at 600 meters in altitude. The plot has a high proportion of Garnacha, and also Tempranillo and Graciano; perhaps in 2022 it's more Garnacha than ever (more than 40%!) and more Mediterranean. It fermented in an open-top, 3,000-kilo oak vat with indigenous yeasts and matured in barriques and foudres for 14 to 16 months. It has notes of Mediterranean herbs and red berry fruit, a little à la Rayas. 2022 was a very warm and dry year, and the wine achieved 14.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.61 and 4.3 grams of acidity. It seems to transcend the character of the year. 1,521 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2024.

Description
El Velado is a coupage made from the native varieties, mainly Tempranillo and a contribution of red Garnacha and other white varieties by the Telmo Rodríguez Company in La Rioja (Spain).
This red wine comes from a beautiful old vineyard planted in the easternmost part of the village of Lanciego and is the best expression of the beauty and uniqueness of the place.
Specifically, it is a plot measuring less than one hectare, which is located at 600 metres above sea level with vines that are on average 80 years old.
This magnificent wine is the perfect accompaniment to small game, stews and roast lamb.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand at the optimum moment of ripeness. On the other hand, organic farming is practised without the use of chemical products and the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed before fermenting in 3,000 litre open oak vats with indigenous yeasts.
Immediately afterwards, the wine is matured in French oak barrels and foudres for about 15 months before bottling.
Taste
Velado is a juicy, fresh and compact red wine, medium-bodied, ultra-refined and very linear. Its tannins are fine and its acidity is balanced. The finish is long and persistent.
