Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Disgorged in May 2018 and based on the 2015 vintage, Dehours's NV Brut Nature is showing nicely, mingling aromas of honey, linden and citrus oil with subtle hints of warm pastry. Medium to full-bodied, pillowy and precise, it's chiseled and saline, with a delicate pinpoint mousse.

Features

Description

Dehours Brut Nature champagne is an authentic and pure expression of Champagne, crafted by the Dehours winery. This experimental wine, aged extra on lees, stands out for its distinctive character of Pinot Meunier, the favourite grape variety in the Marne Valley area and an icon of its vineyards. The Dehours winery is dedicated to production methods that respect biodiversity, working the land and allowing grass to grow between the vines. The wines are aged entirely on the lees and clarified by natural decanting without filtration or fining.

Winemaking

Dehours Brut Nature is characterised by a high proportion of perpetual reserve initiated in 1998. Malolactic fermentation is completed, and natural yeasts selected from the vineyard itself are used for the second fermentation in the bottle, thus enhancing the identity of its terroirs. The wine is aged in the bottle for more than 36 months. The bottling and disgorging date is printed on the back labels, and the base year in the blend is the year before bottling. The dosage is 0 g/l.

Taste

Dehours Brut Nature is a true Brut Nature style, predominantly Pinot Meunier from the Vallée de la Marne, with 30% reserve wine from 1998. It has a golden yellow colour, small bubbles and a medium intensity perlage. On the nose, notes of honey, ripe pear, baked apple, toasted almonds, orange peel and some spices. It has a medium-low acidity and a medium-long finish, offering a complex and refined taste experience.
This wine is a superb example of Dehours' ability to create champagnes that reflect the richness and diversity of their terroirs, while maintaining a firm commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
