Description
From the historic hillsides of Oberhausen an der Nahe, the Dönnhoff family has dedicated generations to understanding the soul of Riesling. This sparkling Dönnhoff Riesling Brut Nature was born as a bold gamble: to capture the mineral tension of the oldest plots and translate it into the language of bubbles. The vines, sunk in slate and volcanic rock soils, offer pure, slow-ripening fruit with a filigree character. The result is a sober and luminous expression of Nahe, where elegance needs no embellishment.
Winemaking
The Dönnhoff Riesling Brut Nature is harvested by hand and whole bunches are gently pressed to preserve aromatic precision. The first fermentation takes place in an old double barrel, where the wine gains structure without losing freshness. In spring, the second fermentation begins in the bottle using the traditional method. After 44 months of ageing on the lees, Dönnhoff Riesling Brut Nature is manually stirred and disgorged without the addition of expedition liqueur. The result: a sparkling wine without make-up, raw and refined at the same time.
Taste
From the moment it is uncorked, Dönnhoff Riesling Brut Nature unfurls a fine, persistent bubble that accompanies aromas of lemon peel, white pear, green apple and a whisper of nectarine. In the background, a saline minerality is reminiscent of wet stone and chalk, the common thread of the sensory profile. On the palate, it is dry, vibrant, with a precise acidity that runs through the palate like a fine steel thread. The finish is long, refreshing, with notes of candied citrus, ripe apple and that subtly saline touch that invites the next sip.
