Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Even the entry-level white 2020 Candea Blanco, a regional blend of equal parts of Dona Blanca, Verdello and Treixadura fermented and kept with lees in stainless steel for one year, shows character, cleanliness, precision and freshness beyond the price point, and it transcends appellation and vintage and is offered with some time in bottle. It has only 12.5% alcohol and an expressive nose of herbs and flowers, and it is balanced, harmonious and elegant and finishes dry and long with a tasty and salty twist. A bargain. 6,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2022.

Features

Description

Candea Blanco is one of those wines that win you over without showing off, with the naturalness of someone who does not need to show off. It does not seek to dazzle with artifice, but rather to speak to you honestly about its land, its people and the passion behind each glass.
Behind this wine is José Luis Mateo, one of those people who work in silence, but whose effort is noticeable in every sip. At his Quinta da Muradella, located in the heart of Monterrei, in Galicia, he takes care of every detail so that his wines express the best of the terroir. He does not look for fashions or bombastic labels. It is all about purity, balance and respect for the vineyard.
Candea Blanco is born from a blend of equal parts of Doña Blanca, Treixadura and Verdelho, native varieties that perfectly reflect the character of the region. The vines, set in slate and granite soils, grow in an Atlantic climate of warm summers and cool nights. And that, my friend, is what gives this wine its freshness and elegance.

Winemaking

There are no barrels here and no processes that disguise its essence. Candea Blanco is fermented with indigenous yeasts and spends a year resting on its lees in stainless steel tanks. This method not only gives it structure, but also keeps its personality intact: pure, clear and sincere.

Taste

As soon as you bring it to the nose, you notice its freshness: white flowers, wild herbs, a touch of lemon peel. On the palate, Candea Blanco is one of those wines that make you salivate. It has a vibrant, yet balanced acidity. It is light, subtle, but with a saline background that gives it character and makes it tremendously gastronomic. One sip takes you to the next, without even realising it.
Best of all is its authenticity. It is not a wine that tries to impress with power or excesses, but with subtlety and harmony. One of those whites that accompany you at a meal with friends and, before you know it, you have already emptied the bottle.
A little treasure from Galicia that is worth discovering.
